Ira Bose · Painter & printmaker · Kolkata
Large canvases about small moments.
Kitchens at 6 a.m., balconies in loadshedding, the blue hour on a ceiling fan. I paint the domestic like it matters — because it does. Originals, editioned prints, and a few commissions a year.
Now showing — "Interiors" at Experimenter, Kolkata · till 30 Aug

Each frame is a placeholder — drop in photographs of your pieces. Keep titles, media and sizes; collectors read the plates first.
Why the domestic?
I grew up in a two-room flat in Lake Gardens where nothing was ever still — and everything, in memory, is. I trained at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, then spent three years in a printmaking studio in Baroda learning that an edition teaches you honesty: every mistake, twenty-five times.
The paintings are large because memory exaggerates. A kitchen becomes a cathedral at 6 a.m.; a power cut becomes theatre. Collectors in twelve cities live with these rooms now, which still astonishes me.
"I paint the rooms we stop seeing because we love them."

A room of yours, painted
Three commissions a year — a room, a window, a table that matters to you. From ₹2.5 L for 36×48 in; editions and smaller works from ₹12,000.
Living with the work
We commissioned my mother's sewing corner after she passed. Ira asked for stories, not just photos. The painting knows things about that room that the photos didn't.

"Kitchen, 6 a.m." hangs where the morning sun hits it. Guests always ask about it; nobody ever asks what it cost. That feels right.

From the notebook
Why I paint at 5:30 in the morning
The hour before the house wakes up is the hour the house is most itself. Notes on light, silence and coffee.
