"On time" means the certified completion date, not the press release. One project in 28 ran late — a 2019 mall, 11 weeks, monsoon flooding plus a contractor default. I list it because you'd find it anyway.

Disciplines

What I run on site

Execution & sequencing

Pour cycles, shuttering rotation, crane time, monsoon planning. A tower is a rhythm — my job is keeping the beat when weather, vendors and drawings all miss theirs.

7-day slab cycle held, 8 floors

Quality & QA/QC

Cube registers, rebar inspections, pour cards, NCR closure. Concrete doesn't accept apologies — it accepts cover blocks, vibration and curing, checked every time.

0 structural NCRs in 12 years

Safety leadership

Height work permits, toolbox talks in three languages, and the unpopular decisions — stopping a pour at 4 p.m. because the shoring didn't look right. It wasn't.

4.2M man-hours, 0 fatalities

Contracts & billing

RA bills, BOQ deviations, extra-item claims, subcontractor reconciliation. The technical half wins the site; this half keeps the project solvent.

₹34 Cr claims settled, documented

Planning & MSP

Baseline programmes, look-ahead schedules, catch-up plans that crews actually follow — because they were built with the foremen, not emailed to them.

26 of 28 projects on/ahead

Client & consultant liaison

Weekly reviews, design-query turnaround, the honest flag raised early. Clients renew with engineers whose bad news arrives before it becomes expensive.

Site stories

Three days that defined the job

The stopped pour · 2022

The evening I refused 320 m³ of concrete

Pumps primed, mixers queued, client on site — and a shoring tower on level 11 that had visibly settled 20 mm since morning. I cancelled the pour. It cost ₹4 lakh and a furious phone call. The structural consultant's inspection next day found two more towers on failing base plates. Nobody thanks you for the accident that didn't happen, so the log book has to.

The right call

The catch-up plan · 2023

Eleven weeks behind, delivered on time

Inherited a township package 11 weeks late after a contractor default. Rebuilt the programme around what the new crews could actually do: two extra shuttering sets, night pours for raft foundations, and a weekly commitment meeting where foremen set their own targets. We recovered the full 11 weeks in seven months — without a single safety incident during night work.

The claim file · 2024

₹6.8 crore, won on paperwork

Client disputed our extra-item claims on rock excavation. The difference between opinion and payment was three years of my site diaries: dated photos, joint measurement records, consultant instructions with signatures. Arbitration awarded 92% of the claim. Site engineering is half concrete, half evidence.

About

Why civil

My father was a PWD draughtsman; our dinner table had blueprints under the plates. But the real conversion happened in my third year of engineering, on a site visit — watching a raft pour at midnight, 60 people moving like one organism. Software eats the world, but somebody still has to hold it up.

Twelve years later I've done the full arc: trainee measuring rebar spacing, section engineer on a metro viaduct, and now project lead on a 22-floor tower. The thing the arc taught me: sites don't fail on engineering. They fail on sequencing, cash flow and the conversations nobody wanted to have in week one.

"The structure will stand for sixty years. The shortcuts would have been invisible for five."

Clients & consultants say

Structural consultant

"Rohit is the only site man who calls me before the problem, not after. The stopped pour in 2022 — his call, against every commercial pressure on that site — is why I take his projects."

Principal, structural consultancy, PuneWorked together on 4 projects

Client project head

"His weekly reports say what's actually happening — including what's late and whose fault it is, his own included. After two decades of contractor optimism, that's worth more than any Gantt chart."
