Teach the scandal first
Satyam before standards, Harshad before SEBI. Why every accounting concept lands better after its most famous abuse.
Read note →15 years teaching Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics to Grades 11–12. My students don't just balance the books — they read annual reports for fun, argue about monetary policy at lunch, and walk into CA, CS and B-school interviews already fluent.
I joined commerce teaching by accident — a maths post was full — and stayed on purpose. Fifteen years later I've taught every corner of the stream: Accountancy that behaves like logic, Business Studies that behaves like gossip about real companies, and Economics that explains the news better than the news does.
My classroom runs a mock stock market with its own circuit breakers, an annual student-run company that has actually turned (small, honest) profits, and a wall of shame for creative accounting. The result: a 98.2% board average at peak, 41 CA-Foundation and CS rank holders, and alumni who send me their first audited balance sheets like postcards.
If your school wants a commerce department that fills its own seats — where students choose the stream instead of settling for it — let's talk terms. My notice period is shorter than a financial year.
Three subjects, one desk — and every position is long-term.
Commerce is the most real subject on the timetable — every student already runs an economy of pocket money, phone plans and canteen credit. I just make it visible. Journal entries become their own spending; elasticity becomes onion prices; the balance sheet becomes a mirror. Once the subject is about their life, the marks take care of themselves.
Lead a six-teacher department across three sections per grade. Built the commerce lab and mock stock market, lifted the stream's intake by 40%, and held the accountancy board average above 95 for seven straight years — peak 98.2.
Grades 11–12 accountancy and business studies; started the student-run company programme whose third batch famously broke even on samosas and never let anyone forget it.
CA-Foundation and Class 12 boards; learned to teach depreciation to a 7 a.m. batch, which qualifies as hazard experience.

Aditya's fatherPARENT · GR 12Our commerce stream went from the leftover option to oversubscribed with a waitlist. That is entirely his department's doing.
