Karate & Self-Defence · 3rd Dan · 18 years

I don't just teach punches. I build confidence.

18 years on the mat teaching Shotokan karate and practical self-defence — to nervous six-year-olds, to teenagers, to women who want to walk home unafraid. Belts are earned, but the real black belt is the calm that never leaves you.

Strong body, calm mind.

I was a bullied, breathless kid who joined a karate class to stop being afraid to walk to school. I never became fearless — I became something better: composed. Eighteen years later I run that same class for the kids at the back who flinch, and for the women who've decided they're done feeling small.

My dojo has one rule above the door: the strongest person in the room is the one who never has to prove it. Kids get discipline they carry into exams. Teens get a place to burn off everything. Women get real, tested, get-away-and-run self-defence — not choreography. Everyone gets a spine.

If your school, club or company wants self-defence that actually works and character that actually sticks — not a belt mill — let's talk. Give me your most nervous beginner and three months.

Every class is a kata

Karate begins and ends with respect — that's the first thing on the mat and the last thing to leave. I don't run a trophy factory; I build people who stand straighter, breathe slower, and never need to throw the first punch. Every class follows the same honest arc: bow in, warm the body, drill one technique until it's clean, spar under control, then bow out calmer than you came. The belt around your waist matters far less than the composure between your ears.

  1. Rei — bow in. Leave the day at the door. Respect the mat, the sensei, each other.
  2. Kihon — basic technique, drilled slow then sharp. No sloppy reps.
  3. Kata — the form. Balance, power, breathing, memory — all at once.
  4. Kumite — controlled sparring. Test the technique when someone's testing you.
  5. Rei — bow out. Reflect on one thing you did better than yesterday.

Self-defence that actually works
