I don't teach diagrams. I teach why living things work the way they do.

12 years teaching biology across Grades 9–12 — cells, genetics, physiology and ecology, taught as connected living systems rather than a list to memorise. Specimen first, label second, and never a structure without its function.

Biology is a story about how life fits together.

I was the kid who kept the dead beetle in a matchbox to see what was inside — and later the one who couldn't understand why the textbook drew a cell but never said what it was doing. So I became the teacher who starts with the living thing and lets the diagram earn its place.

Twelve years on, I still teach for that curiosity, and just as hard for the student who thinks biology is 'just memorising.' It isn't. It's the most connected subject there is — every structure explained by a function, every function by a need. Get them to see the connections and the memorising takes care of itself.

If your school wants biology taught as living systems, not label-diagrams, I'd love to talk.

The method — how a class grows

Every lesson is a living cycle

A good biology class is a story about survival. You open with something alive — a specimen, a symptom, a question about their own body — let structure reveal function, reach the turn where a static diagram becomes a living process, then make them connect it to a system they've already met. Understanding isn't labelling; it's seeing how the whole thing hangs together.

  1. Open with something alive — a leaf, a bone, a question about their own body.
  2. Let structure reveal function: what problem is this shape solving?
  3. The turn — where a static diagram becomes a living process.
  4. Connect it outward. If they can link it to another system, they own it.

Where I've taken root

2017 — PRESENT

Head of Biology

Rajagiri Public School, Kochi

Lead a 5-teacher department; rebuilt the practical-biology program around live specimens and microscopy. Board distinctions rose from 41% to 76% of the cohort, with eleven NEET and olympiad toppers.

2013 — 2017

Senior Biology Faculty

Choice School, Kochi

Grades 9–12 physiology and genetics; started the specimen-and-microscope lab program and coached the school's first olympiad medallists.

2010 — 2013

Biology Teacher

Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Kochi

Grades 9–10; turned 'biology is just memorising' students into a cohort with the school's strongest practical scores.

Things I keep noting down

JUN 2026

Biology is not memorising

It only feels that way when structure comes before function. The systems-first sequence I use to make it click.

Start with the specimen, not the diagram

Why a real leaf beats a labelled drawing — and the cheap specimen-cart that changed my classroom.

NOV 2025

Every structure is an answer to a problem

Teach function first and the labels stop being a list — they become the obvious consequences of a need.
