Rehearse the chaos
Why free-ball scramble drills matter more than pretty six-on-six, and how I structure a defensive practice.
Read note →13 seasons coaching volleyball — from school teams learning to serve overhand to state-level squads chasing a title. I coach the game between the points: the rotation, the read, and the six-second conversation that turns six individuals into one connected side.
I set for my state team through college — the position nobody notices until it goes wrong. That's where I learned that volleyball is a game of organisation as much as athleticism: the best hitter in the state is useless without a setter who can read the block and a defence that trusts its shape.
Thirteen seasons coaching later, I've taken two squads to state titles and sent eighteen players into state selection, but the compliment I keep is from an opposing coach who said my teams 'always look like they've rehearsed the chaos'. That's the job — making the six-second scramble look choreographed.
If your club or school wants a coach who builds systems, develops setters, and turns a roster into a side, I'm on the sideline early with a clipboard and a plan. Give me your team that loses the close ones — those are the fun ones to fix.
Serve to set, block to dig — the full six-position picture I coach.
Individuals win points; teams win matches. My squads spend as much time on the six-second read — where's the setter, who's blocking, where's the gap — as they do on the swing. A well-drilled rotation beats a stronger, disorganised team almost every time. I coach connection first, then the spike takes care of itself.
Lead the girls' and boys' senior squads. Built the 5-1 system that took the girls to back-to-back state finals (title in 2023), and a feeder programme that keeps the academy stocked from U-14 up. Eighteen state selections since 2018.
Built the school programme from scratch — first competitive team in the school's history reached the district final within two seasons.
Assisted the U-17 state squad; ran the setter-development camps that three district associations still send players to.

Read note →She turned a group of tall girls who'd never played into state finalists in three seasons. The system did it — you can see it on the court.
Academy directorNASHIK SPORTS ACADEMYI was a middle blocker she moved to setter. Best decision of my playing life. I read the block now because she taught me to.
